Zodiac review

Zodiac movie poster
I’ve recently seen Zodiac (2007), a film based on the notorious Zodiac serial killer which killed several people in San Francisco in the late 1960s. Zodiac is one of the most intriguing American serial killers. In the late 60s and early 70s he send lots of letters to newspapers, calling himself the Zodiac.

Zodiac signed his letters with a cross-hair like symbol and is also known for his cryptograms, some which have yet to be solved. Here’s a look at a cryptogram from Zodiac which got (partly) cracked in August 1969 by a Californian couple:

I LIKE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH FUN IT IS MORE FUN THAN KILLING WILD GAME IN THE FORREST BECAUSE MAN IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ANAMAL OF ALL TO KILL SOMETHING GIVES ME THE MOST THRILLING EXPERENCE IT IS EVEN BETTER THAN GETTING YOUR ROCKS OFF WITH A GIRL THE BEST PART OF IT IS THAT WHEN I DIE I WILL BE REBORN IN PARADICE AND ALL THE I HAVE KILLED WILL BECOME MY SLAVES I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY NAME BECAUSE YOU WILL TRY TO SLOI DOWN OR STOP MY COLLECTING OF SLAVES FOR MY AFTERLIFE EBEORIETEMETHHPITI

In the letters he claimed he had killed as many as 37 people, although police investigators agree on only seven canonical victims, two of whom survived.

Most of the movie follows the life of Robert Graysmith, a San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist who becomes obsessed with the case, but you also see lots fragments involving reporter Paul Avery and police investigators who are trying to find the identity of the Zodiac killer.

Zodiac is a very interesting film with very good acting, I give it a 8/10.
