How much top bloggers make a month

DollarsBusinessWeek published an article this week about top money making bloggers.

Here’s a quick overview of the sites and their estimated income. Some sites provided the income figures to BusinessWeek while other sites didn’t so the reporter had to guesstimate the earnings himself, therefore I have some doubts on how accurate this list is:

  • BoingBoing: over $1 million a year
  • icanhascheezburger.com: $5,600 a month based on ad rates and traffic data
  • ShoeMoney.com: $12,000 a month
  • OverHeardInNewYork.com: $8,100 a month based on ad rates and traffic data
  • Kottke.org: $5,300 a month based on ad rates
  • TalkingPointsMemo: $45,000 a month based on ad rates and traffic data
  • PerezHilton.com: $111,000 a month based on ad rates and traffic data
  • Gothamist.com (and 13 other sites): $250,000 a month
  • TechCrunch: $200,000 a month
  • Go Fug Yourself: $6,240 a month based on ad rates and traffic data
  • Mashable: $166,000 a month based on ad rates and traffic data
  • ProBlogger: over $100,000 a year
  • Michelle Malkin and Hot Air: revenue N/A
  • Of these 13 blogs there are only 4 that I visit at least once a month: ProBlogger, ShoeMoney, Tech Crunch and BoingBoing. Some of the other blogs I’ve already visited once but I’ve never heard about some of the other ones like Michelle Malkin and Gothamist.

Perhaps they should have also included John Chow. His blog is very popular and last month he made $12,569.61 with it.
