About 1.5 years ago I bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook and set up a wireless network so I could work everywhere in and outside our house. This was pretty nice and allowed me to work while lying in my bed, sitting on the couch or while relaxing a bit outside in the sun.
But due to lots of abuse () the battery of my notebook has worn down extremely fast. The battery only lasts for about 30-40 minutes anymore and everytime I boot up my notebook one of those programs from Dell (I believe it’s called QuickSet) warns me that I need to replace my battery. It’s still possible to use the laptop by plugging the charger into an AC outlet but that way I lose a lot of the portability aspect.
I first considered replacing the battery but a quick visit to Dell’s website learned me that these batteries are really expensive. They charge 187.55EUR for a 9-cell battery for the Inspiron 6000, which is a lot more than I’m willing to spend on a battery replacement.
So I’m starting to consider buying a new notebook which is a bit more portable than the one I currently own. This gives me a new toy to play with and would still allow me to use my old laptop for multimedia purpuses.. But on the other hand the problem is that this is about 5-6x as expensive as buying a new battery for my old laptop. Mm it’s a pretty hard choice
One of the notebooks I’m interested in is the new Dell XPS M1330. I still need to read a bit more about it but it looks like it’s a pretty interesting small, portable notebook. It has a 13.3″ LCD display, is very thin, doesn’t weigh a lot and should have a decent battery life.
Here’s a short video of the notebook from NotebookReview.com:
They have the red version, I’m more interested in getting the black one Or perhaps another alternative is to ask review samples to Dell so I can check out the notebook for a couple of weeks first but the problem is that I don’t have a contact person at Dell yet.

The XPS M1330 looks like a really nice notebook. I´m looking for a new lappy too, my actual computer has your same problem 😥
You might want to take a look at the Thinkpad X60, it´s lighter but it´s only 12,1 inches, and 4:3 ratio screen. It´s selling in eBay for something around U$1000.
Cheers!
I’ve decided to contact Dell and ask them if they can send me an evaluation sample of the XPS M1330 but so far I haven’t received a reponse yet.
The ThinkPad X-series also looks interesting btw.
